Island Writer magazine launch

You are invited to join the Victoria Writers’ Society in celebrating the launch of Island Writer magazine, volume 8 issue 1, summer 2010.

When: Wednesday, May 5, 2010, 7-9 p.m.

Where: Norway House Hall, 1110 Hillside Avenue

What: Readings from 7:00–8:30 p.m.

Munchies & Mingling to follow

Admission: free

Extra copies or copies for non-members can be purchased at the launch for $8 each.

Victoria Writers’ Society Summer E-Camp

Camp Details

The Victoria Writers’ Society Summer E-Camp will run from

June 15 – August 10; with a wrap-up party one evening during the week of August 23-29th.

Up to ten writers in each of three genres (poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction) will have the opportunity to work on a one-on-one basis via email with a Writer-In-Residence in their chosen genre.

The Camp will go something like this:

June 15: participants will submit up to 10 pages (poets) or 3500 words (fiction and creative non-fiction writers) of their work to their respective Writers-In-Residence.

June 29: the W-I-Rs will return work to participants with thorough comments.

July 27: participants will return their revised work to their W-I-Rs (During the 4 weeks of revision time, participants will have the opportunity to correspond with their W-I-Rs via email)

August 10: W-I-Rs will return work to participants with comments.

Participants will then have time to make final touches to their work before the wrap-up party during the week of August 23-29, in which all participants will read from their work to one another.


$40 for VWS members

$70 for non-members (includes membership to the VWS)
